Architect Sim Bruce Richards: Life & Work (1908-1983)

Join us for 20th Century Modernism historian Keith York’s presentation ‘Architect Sim Bruce Richards: Life & Work’. Attendees will experience a comprehensive survey of images and stories of the Frank Lloyd Wright apprentice as he grew up in Oklahoma and Arizona and demonstrated his woodsy organic modernism throughout San Diego County.

Richards’ palette of wood, glass, and masonry developed following time with Wright in California honoring the work of architects Irving Gill, Bernard Maybeck, William Wurster, Greene & Greene, and Emmor Brooke Weaver.

Leave this presentation inspired by Richards’ legacy, and a curiosity for other Wright apprentices’ work in the San Diego region – and the power of the craftsman tradition to raise the bar of residential architecture.
