Chicana fashion designer, Claudia Biezunski-Rodriguez, was introduced to sewing at a very young age by her immigrant parents. Claudia’s father owned a denim factory in San Fernando, CA, and her stay-at-home mother sewed all the clothing for Claudia and her two brothers and three sisters. Once she started sewing, she couldn’t stop. She created one-of-a-kind handbags and other accessories for her friends and family. Today, you will find Claudia sewing one-of-a-kind clothing & accessories using reclaimed fabrics for women and men in the vibrant neighborhood of Barrio Logan in San Diego, CA. Take a tour of Sew Loka’s sewing studio in Barrio Logan and view an awe-inspiring clothing art exhibition portraying a young woman’s journey from Mexico to California during the early 1980s. Claudia will guide you through ten designated areas located throughout her Barrio Logan sewing studio, with each area containing an original clothing piece, created and designed specifically for this event, and inspired by a significant, real-life moment that occurred during Claudia's mother’s journey from Mexico to America.
This will be an unforgettable and emotional design experience that will leave you feeling empowered and motivated to create positive change.
